POSITION SUMMARY

Design engineer for mechanical equipment and piping in the utility and industrial sectors. The candidate has a Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering and has experience in natural gas systems engineering and operations.  Types of projects include, but are not limited to, meter and regulator station and facility design, process piping, system improvements, pressure upgrades, new service main or pipeline extensions, odorization and pipe conditioning.  The candidate will be assigned to a home office and have the ability to work at remote jobsites for project assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Review civil, mechanical, instrumentation, or electrical plans and specifications along with site survey information.
  • Sizing and selection of pipe, components, and appurtenances for project specific requirements. 
  • Equipment selection and specification for gas system components such as piping, control valves, regulators, isolation valves, strainers, filters, pressure/temperature/flow instrumentation, vessels, heaters, compressors. 
  • Equipment selection and specification for mechanical system components such as piping, valves pumps, fans, blowers, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, instrumentation, etc.
  • Design coordination with the client, vendors, and Kiely inter-disciplines between the mechanical, electrical, and civil/structural work.
  • Sizing and performance calculations.
  • Assists with project plans and reports and other technical documentation.

Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, preferably Mechanical or Civil
  • 5-15 years of experience
  • EIT / PE license is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of piping codes and regulations including ASME B31 family of codes and 49 CFR 192/195 federal regulations.
  • Ability to work independently advancing from working with assistance to working with minimal supervision and limited job definition.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in Project Management practices.
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment on making technical decisions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Able to communicate clearly in writing and explain work.
  • Computer skills: Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications as well as CAD and GIS software and applications.
  •  Expected amount of field work will vary based on client needs and project assignments and would be approximately 10-25%.
